Moments of overindulgence throughout the year can really pack in the unnecessary pounds. That’s why it’s a great time to begin DIY projects to make the fat melt away. DIY projects are simple, fun and easy to do. All you need are the materials (which often can be found lying around the house) and a lot of loving patience.

Wallpapering

One reason why people dislike wallpapers is often the wallpaper peels after a few years. There’s a way to defeat this- by making sure that the walls are dry enough to accommodate the adhesive. An easy way to do this is through natural ventilation. Open the windows and doors and allow the surface moisture of the walls to evaporate.

According to Lance King, a contractor with over ten years of experience:

“Airing out your walls will show you what kind of damage you already have. Moisture is not something that goes away completely, but at least after a few hours you’ll see what parts of the wall still have even surfaces.”

After drying, carefully apply the adhesive on the wall with a small paintbrush. Use liberal, long strokes and use the natural flow of the brush to help spread the adhesive.

Make sure that the adhesive is spread evenly in thin vertical strips to make the installation of the wallpaper easier. A woman with an average weight of 60 kilograms can burn up to 300 calories while wallpapering. That’s a lot of flab off for a few hours work!

Basic gardening

According to Susan Wilkins, a horticulturist and a DIY enthusiast from London:

“Getting a garden up for the first time might be hard work. But at the same time, you’re investing in a form of aesthetic pleasure after a few weeks- something that can never be matched by artificial blossoms.”

If you want flowers to bloom in your garden all year long, take a short trip to the nearest horticulturist to purchase perennials. Daisies, roses and other common flowers generally have long lifespan and can withstand nearly all kinds of soil conditions.

The first step is to dig holes 15-30 cm deep. The compost mulch will be stored in the holes, before a surface layer is added to stabilize the plant. Depositing mulch increases the longevity of plants and increases the moisture-storing capacity of the soil.

If you want to plant vegetables, plant beds should be three to four feet long and at least 15 cm apart. Antagonistic plant species such as onions and tomatoes should never be planted together.

Garden maintenance

Maintaining a small garden is actually quite simple after the planting. Weeding will take up most of your time (make sure that you gently pull out the weeds so as to not disturb the roots of your other plants).
The application of mulch is also a good idea, as mulch placed near the root of the plant attracts good insects like ants, which consume pests.

Watering should be done every two days, and should be carried out with a small sprinkler. If you’re diligent enough, you can easily burn 700 calories a day from just taking care of your new garden.

Purchasing power tools is fast becoming a great pastime for DIY kings and queens around the country. However, not all power tools are created equal. Any serious DIY enthusiast should have some basic know-how regarding power tools before he goes out to shell good money to buy a piece or two.

Power tools are meant to be used incessantly. According to Donny Sheridan, a DIY expert and syndicated columnist:
“And don’t buy gear just because it is on offer or you think you might use it in the future – it will just end up gathering dust.”
Combi drill

The combi drill is a wonderful combination of a hammering action, drilling and driver. Most combi drills have alternating settings so you can drill through both wooden material and non-wooden material such as concrete and brick.

Combi drills are used to make the installation of screws easier. Since most wooden planks are too hard to simply drive a nail into, drills are used to speed up the process. The combi drill uses an 18 volt battery and good quality drills literally last decades.

On batteries and corded tools

If you’re looking for replacement or substitute batteries for your power tools, make sure that you get lithium ion batteries that have overload protection. This ensures that your power tool and your batteries will not explode or fizzle out in your hand.

Also, lithium ion batteries can rest in your garden shed for months and remain charged as these batteries tend to retain power even after intense use.

Now as for the use of corded or cordless tools, you have a choice. Cordless tools have generally been weaker than corded tools because of the power source. But with the advent of higher battery voltages (36 volts and above) the landscape of power tools has literally changed.

According to Harry Blackwell, a home contractor in the UK:

“The monopoly of the corded tools has ended. Large companies are investing heavily in R&D to make newer tools saleable to a large public.”

Saws

Saber saws or reciprocating saws are basically identical with jigsaws. The disparity, according to Sheridan is:
“The main difference is the blade sticks out at the front instead of downwards – as is the case with jigsaws. The beauty of a reciprocating saw is you can cut through wood, stone or metal by simply changing the blade. It also copes with curved or angular cutting.”

Circular saws on the other hand, are used to deal with raw timber- which is hard to cut with regular power saws. Circular saws are used also to adequately cut and shape plywood and joists.

Tip on plasterboards

Mr. Sheridan has an added recommendation, this time on plasterboards:

“Plasterboard is obviously weaker than brick and therefore can be easily damaged. For example, a door handle repeatedly banging into the wall when opening a door will weaken the board and create a hole. Chairs banging into the board can also lead to holes. Or you may need to fill in holes which were cut for wiring for a flat-screen TV or in a ceiling that once had spotlights.”

If your DIY requirements do not stretch beyond hanging a few picture frames, chances are all you’ll ever need is a budget priced basic 14Volt DIYer Drill-Driver, many which require up to 3 hours or more to recharge the batteries. But if like many who enjoy DIY and are interested in taking on more ambitious tasks, chances are you’ll be in the market for a more sophisticated Drill-Driver.

On the otherhand if the DIY requirements are more demanding then there are two essential to consider when selecting a cordless Drill Driver and they are Torque and Battery power.

Torque which is the measure of rotational power or force applied by the power tool to drive or rotate the screw. The greater the torque available, the easier the screw will turn. A clutch is used by Drill-drivers to control torque. Ideally, the more torque settings (amount of torque applied) the better the performance required to sufficiently turn the screw and to stop turning when the screw head is tight and snug. Ability to adjust torque is critical, not only to avoid damage to screw head by applying too much torque but to be efficient when the project involves working with many screws. Look for models with more torque settings, so chances are a model boasting 25 settings is probably more versatile than a model with 16 settings.

For cordless power tools, Lithium-ion (L-ion) battery power tools are much more efficient battery technology than the traditional Nickel-cadium (NiCd) or Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery cells. L-ion batteries deliver not only more current which means more power but also retain power charge for longer time, which is why all the latest 18v power tools feature L-ion batteries. Another important feature of L-ion batteries is that unlike the traditional batteries which suffer ‘memory effect’ (when a battery capacity is reduced by repeated top-up charging) L-ion batteries do not suffer ‘memory effect’.

The enormous success of Drill-Drivers is due mainly to their popularity as a powered screwdriver. Unlike the fast turning electric drill bit, you have a slow turning screw driver, which can generate more rotational force (torque). Usually a slide switch can reverse the spin direction which is required for removing screws.

Latest trends in Drill-Driver product design sees the emergence of a more sci-fi styling featuring a more compact size and less weight. But don’t be fooled by the outward size and appearance, these tools are well capable of meeting the demands of serious amateurs as well as professionals. Product performance typically includes 1200rpm, and 22 clutch setting positions, high and low ratios, LED work light and touch sensitive triggers allowing fine control and generating a massive 25lb of torque and more clutch, Battery recharging time has been dramatically reduced to 30 minutes or less. Market leading models are powered by 18V lithium-ion batteries.

Governments across the globe are frantically trying to put systems in place to help avert the growing environmental crisis the earth faces. But we don’t need to leave it entirely up to the governments to look after the situation, we also can play our part. One of the biggest ways we can contribute is to reduce our dependence on traditional energy resources.

The energy resources we currently use are non-renewable sources, meaning eventually our energy needs will out grow the available resources. These energy sources also give off harmful emissions, when they are extracted, refined and consumed. DIY solar power provides an alternative to these traditional energy sources. By changing the majority of our household energy needs to sources such as solar and wind power we will by default reduce the harmful impact on the environment our current energy consumption inflicts.

If that’s not an attractive enough proposition, DIY solar power also has the benefit of saving the house holder a lot of money. Conventional Solar power installations can be very expensive, with costs running into the thousands of dollars, many home owners are put off the idea as a result. Another benefit of using a non environment impacting resource such as solar is you don’t need to feel guilty about using excess power.

With DIY solar power, you not only gain the benefits of harvesting your own free energy resource you are also saving thousands of dollars on buying and implementing a traditional solar power system.

So lets not leave it up to the governments, lets start helping the environment and save some money in the process.

Take a close look at the evening newspaper and all you’ll see on the front page is global warming, energy crisis and bad economic times approaching. It’s no wonder that more and more people are investigating the potential prospect of making their own windmill for power.

Americans are in need of an alternate means of power and the windmill represents an excellent solution towards this goal. Not only is this form of power generation a cleaner method then the usual fossil fuels, but best of all it will save the owner money.

The Benefits of DIY Wind Energy

Unlike the usual oil or coal fuels, wind power is totally renewable. If the wind will blow, you will have power. It is as simple as that.

The system of power is extremely economical. Your homemade windmill will drastically reduce the cost of the electricity that you use for your home. You may even eliminate the power company’s bill completely.

Maintenance and operating costs associated with your homemade windmill are relatively low. The act of making your own windmill may cost you only a few hundred dollars, if that. You really cannot beat that investment at all.

Windmills are fairly simple to assembly and guides to their construction are readily available on the internet. A person with normal handyman skills can construct one in a matter of a few days.

What You Need to Build a DIY Wind Energy

Most of the materials used in the construction of a homemade windmill are available in your local hardware store and are moderately inexpensive. If you so desire, they could also be purchased over the internet at an even lower initial cost.

Once your windmill is up and running, there is no more investment needed on a monthly basis. You will quickly notice the saving you are experiencing after the very first month. With all these ways that a windmill can help you towards increasing your savings account don’t you think its time you switched too?

If you need professional, step-by-step instructions on building your own windmill, you need to visit Build a Windmill, where you will learn more about windmill building and how you can get started making one of your own!

Britons could be rushing to get themselves a home improvement loan following the latest tips from Nationwide about the best ways to sell your home, which reflected the need to have any outstanding do-it-yourself (DIY) work done and dusted.

A study commissioned by the building society into what buyers look for when they consider buying a property has created plenty of food for thought for those looking to sell their house, something that could encourage a number of those with their house on the market to look for the best home improvement loans to fund the work.

Commenting on the survey, Katie Harper, Nationwide media relations manager, said: “Higher interest rates and the resulting reduction in new buyers visiting estate agents continue to put further pressure on homeowners who are looking to sell. While there is no evidence to suggest that these top tips would command a higher price, sellers might find they come in useful when they do manage to encourage potential buyers to view their property.”

Tackling DIY disasters is an important factor, according to the building society. This top tip comes from the fact that 90 per cent of potential homebuyers thought that poor building work or bad DIY was a “big turn off”, according to Nationwide.

A big lure for potential buyers is how green a house is, with 82 per cent of respondents to the survey suggesting that environmental factors such as solar panels make a house more appealing. This was a larger number than those that found an attic room, period features or walk-in wardrobes important, a persuader for 68 per cent, 63 per cent and 62 per cent respectively. Again, some of these measures are food and drink for Britain’s DIY fans.

Away from the house itself, a home improvement loan could be used in part to fix up the garden and put up a fence, whether of panels or poplars. Some 80 per cent of respondents to Nationwide’s survey stated that they would think twice about putting an offer in on a property where privacy was not provided for in the garden.

The kitchen was seen as the most important room in the house by more than half of those involved in Nationwide’s survey, with 54 per cent seeing the room as the most influential as to whether they would put in an offer. A home improvement loan could provide the funds for a new kitchen suite.

Nationwide has said that the time of year people look to sell their property is also important, with potential sellers being warned to stay away from “the summer drought” as well as November and December, when the distraction of Christmas is all too near.

In June a study by Halifax revealed that 58 per cent of consumers have carried out home improvements in the last 12 months, many with the intention of adding value to their homes. About a quarter of those surveyed by Halifax hoped to add as much as 5,000 pounds to the value of their home.

As you may know DIY mean Do It Yourself. In England I understand that hardware stores are termed DIY shops.

Do you believe that wealth is something to squander upon ones self, or to rather give away?

We all require teaching and guidance when serious about promoting and making an income from a person to person home business. And any spirituality used in that guidance can’t hurt.

Secondly, since most HBB (Home Based Business) owners are really NOT top notch sales people it behooves us to know that there are companies now selling information where they do the selling for you and/or indeed have real ways to help you find people to talk to. Some even make sales for you without you even speaking to a prospect.

You see times are changing rapidly. The old “Amway” form of running a home based business distributorship is fading fast. Catalogs, retail sales and home parties may be fun and good for a few extra dollars each month even today. But the old ways involved selling to your friends, neighbors or warm market, or perhaps you did mailings by sticking labels on post cards a soon disappearing. You either used the local phone book or you had to purchase telephone leads. You also might have advertised in the local papers or used magazine want ads inviting others to join your team.

You can do these things today, but the Internet has really changed things that can bring about prosperity. I’m talking about 5 figures per month.

However, we must know how to use such a powerful tools.

For example, with the exponential growth of Internet technology, the WWW can come up with all the leads that you’ll ever want.

What kind of marketing am I talking about? Email leads means a huge percentage (perhaps 97%) of us will never make enough money using the Internet by making hundreds of cold phone calls or by spamming with hundreds or thousands of emails each day. Besides unsolicited emails are illegal.

Now one can earn a respectable income without suffering from rude behavior, breaking the law, boring repetitive no answers, answering machines, and phone rejection? Something has to change.

Furthermore, understand that if you talk to 100 people (that might involve making 300 phone calls) you will perhaps get 2 people interested in joining your opportunity. But those 2 might still not sign-up! Those 300 phone numbers may have cost you anywhere from $150 to $2500 depending on what type of leads you purchased. Even after all that those two people go on a monthly autoship and you earn maybe $30 per month. In the mean time you’ve spent $100 buying the products.

Knowing this you may jump into Google adwords like I once did. That can cost upwards to $10 per lead or as low as .30 cents, so get the right kind of help using Google adwords, or you will quickly find yourself going broke like I did.

Be encouraged! You will find answers when you find the correct group of marketers…The correct team…The correct mentors. If you can’t then know that you can become the leader that helps others do the job.

By the way, I still do not understand where lead vendors come off selling you personal information about others to those seeking a home business. Anybody can simply Google “home based business” and find what business they want. Except when I do this, my computer says you will find 580,000,000 answers.

You need to find a system that works and then do it yourself? So how do you do that? Who do you trust? I know who I trust.

Have you seen those commercials on TV where people testify to having made thousands in their own home based business. Those TV ads, produced by lead vendors, encourage you to visit a web site to find out more. You are then to leave your personal information so they can contact you with the right business for you. You may agree, that there just seems to be something wrong with this behavior. Because the information that they get from you is sold to others as leads. Those who purchase those leads will then be calling you with there “opportunity”. The good news is any advertising for a home based business if fine with me.

Today I believe, as many do, that leads can be created by the home computer user directly. Sorry lead vendors, but you should not have to purchase leads any longer, not be hounded by phone calls, or hound others with imposing phone calls. To quote a recent movie, “build it and they will come”. We need a proper playing field for the game, however.

This is what you should strive to attain. There are many advertisers ready to obtain legitimate email leads for you from your own efforts. The leads that you will receive will be from folk looking to the Internet to earn a living. Leads from specific advertising are what you want. An email lead is created and sent to you when anyone responds to an Internet advertisement about your specific opportunity. This contact can also be a phone call to you to find out more about what you are offering…Attain that, and you have arrived.

This is what every home based business owner wants and should strive for…People calling to find out more.

Lead generation must be self-promoting. Your process is to understand how you use Internet offerings to help you advertise your home based business. The Internet advertising gurus propagate through affiliate networking. Affiliates use the Internet to spread their offerings by paying you an affiliate commission to find others like yourself. I’m affiliated with God first, then with affiliates that will help me find sales. Others who use the tools that I am affiliated with will result in a commission to me.

It may cost you a few bucks each month to obtain the advertising and promotion using DIY marketing, but since others will wish to do the same thing, you will obtain income from the affiliates wanting to join you. You will have an answer for them when it comes to marketing and advertising your opportunity.

It all begins with you obtaining your own web site. It’s a win-win situation, and having your own site is a must. Get one at “GoDaddy” for $8.95 a year. What you do with your own site is to tutor others with the steps to do your business.

If you have found that buying leads is a real loser then get ready to accelerate your income because you will now have more traffic to your web site than you ever thought possible. When people respond to the advertising about your business, they will become an email lead where you can encourage them to your opportunity site by repeatedly dripping opted-in emails to them via your autoreponder.

There are many methods to drive traffic to your web site using such things as traffic exchanges, article writing, a blog, a training web site, videos on YouTube and press releases. At first there is enough to keep you busy at lease 8 hours a day for that 5 figure monthly income…Later just a few hours each day as your experience grows.

Until then there are two things that you require to make a huge income over the Internet. First, something that really benefits others, and second, working all the tools to help others find you and your offering.

Believe me DIY Marketing over the Internet is the best and least expensive way to your home business success.
